Yesterday, Team Nohô had the chance to meet Mathilde, a farmer at Ferme Saint Vaast in Calvados. With great kindness and insight, she shared an essential part of their business with us: flax cultivation.
Flax is a demanding crop. Mathilde explained the entire process to us, from sowing to scutching, including the characteristic blue flowering stage. It is a crop that leaves no room for improvisation: the weather, the soil, crop rotation… everything must be controlled, and each season brings its own risks. Yet flax remains a source of pride for them, a family tradition passed down from generation to generation. Today, it is the farm’s third main crop, out of a total of seven.
What struck us was the passion with which Mathilde told us this story. She wasn’t just talking about technique, but about values, the land, and commitment. Flax cultivation is also good for the environment: zero waste, low input, and 100% natural. A fiber with a future… cultivated with humility.
At Nohô, we believe that these stories deserve to be heard. That agriculture has everything to gain by showing itself, explaining itself, and sharing itself.
And that’s why we’re here.
Nohô is a platform designed to shine a light on those who make a living from their passion. For farmers, it’s a unique opportunity to showcase their expertise, connect with the general public, and introduce them to their profession in a different way: through concrete, human, and educational experiences.
